The Nelson Museum offers the following learning opportunities:
Visits to the museum. Of a duration to suit you; although most school visits are typically one to two hours. If you wish to stay for lunch we have picnic tables in the Maritime Courtyard for sunny days or a large room for rainy days (please note this room is not fully accessible).
Education sessions. Tailored to suit your requirements. Sessions include Nelson as a Local Hero and Life Aboard Ship.
Outreach visits. If you can't visit the museum we'll bring the museum to you. Whether it is a school assembly or classroom session our outreach visits will make history come alive!
Loan Boxes. Based on Life Aboard Ship, the loan boxes contain objects for your group to examine and handle. The boxes are available to hire for two weeks for £20. We advise due to high demand that loan boxed are booked well in advance. To arrange hire please contact Alison or Bertie at the museum on 01493 850698.
Crew's Quarters. Our new learning and education room is available to schools for their visits. Led sessions are usually taught in here but it is also accessible during self-led visits. A mini handling collection is available in this space and we have a special pre-school corner for 0-5 year olds.
To arrange a museum visit or outreach session, please contact the Curator at firstname.lastname@example.org
